A heterogeneous preparation of low-molecular-weight peptides and free amino acids derived by standardized enzymatic proteolysis of purified porcine brain proteins. The peptide fraction is below approximately 10 kDa. Independent mass-spectrometry profiling (HPLC-ESI ion-trap and UHPLC-ion-mobility-QTOF) identified the main peptide constituents as derived from structural proteins (tubulin, actin, myelin basic protein); intact endogenous neurotrophic-factor fragments were not detected in that analysis. As a peptide-containing hydrolysate, its constituents are subject to enzymatic degradation rather than being stable to oral exposure.
