Modification
N-terminal acetylation. Two distinct molecules are marketed under this name: full-length Thymosin Beta-4 (Tβ4; 43 residues; CAS 77591-33-4) and the actin-binding fragment Ac-LKKTETQ (residues 17-23; CAS 885340-08-9). Most published in vivo and clinical research has examined the full-length peptide, not the short fragment; the two are studied as separate molecules.

Mechanism & Target Class

Thymosin Beta-4 is the principal intracellular G-actin-sequestering peptide; the LKKTETQ motif is its actin-binding domain. It binds monomeric actin and modulates actin polymerization rather than acting through a cell-surface receptor.
