Mechanism & Target Class
A linear heptapeptide analogue of the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), extended at the C-terminus with a Pro-Gly-Pro motif reported to confer resistance to peptidase cleavage. Research on the parent compound describes several studied mechanisms: concentration-dependent inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes in human serum, examined in relation to endogenous enkephalin hydrolysis; modulation of GABAergic-system gene expression studied at the transcriptional level; effects on monoamine systems (serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine) measured by HPLC in brain structures; and regulation of BDNF expression and cytokine/chemokine gene expression. N-Acetyl Selank is the N-terminally acetylated variant; its pharmacological properties are inferred from parent-compound studies, as no dedicated peer-reviewed literature exists for the acetylated form.
