The published primary literature places the sequence at residues 177–191; "176-191" is the widespread secondary-literature nomenclature for the same fragment. NMR conformational analysis of the cyclic peptide identifies type I β-turns and describes how the Cys–Cys loop constrains the backbone. It is the native, unmodified parent of the later analog AOD-9604, which adds an N-terminal tyrosine extension; the present fragment carries no such extension.
